www.access-funds.co.uk

The majority of the information about funders on this website is only available if you pay a subscription, but there are headlines which can give you some ideas of what is on offer by whom.

www.awardsforall.org.uk

One of the lottery funds, giving up to £5,000.

www.biglotteryfund.org.uk

The biggest of the lottery funds, not yet fully operational (as of July 2005), so keep checking it to see if new funding programmes have been announced.

www.cafonline.org

They describe themselves as: “the not-for-profit organisation committed to effective giving. We raise the profile of giving, lobby for tax breaks, and provide an increasingly broad suite of services to charities and their supporters”. See particularly the “charities” section.

www.cibfunding.org.uk

This is the website of the Charities Information Bureau. Lots of useful information about funding and many other topics of use to not-for-profit organisations. Click on the “help and advice” button and explore all the options. They also publish a monthly e-mail Funding Newsletter, which you pay to receive.

www.dsc.org.uk

The Directory of Social Change, despite its name, is an organisation. They publish a lot of books on fundraising, which can be bought via the website.

www.funderfinder.org.uk

Funderfinder is a not-for-profit organisation. It provides databases listing trusts which fund groups and individuals. (Cost likely to be about £150 in the first year and £55 p.a. thereafter). Its website also has a lot of very useful information on gaining funding, plus two free pieces of software which help you to make funding applications and work out your budget.

www.fundinginformation.org.uk

You have to pay a subscription to access this site, which provides information on new funds and general news on the funding world.

www.governmentfunding.org.uk

An easy-to-use website which helps you find out about funds available from various government departments, though it does not cover all of them.

www.givingcampaign.org.uk

Well explained information on tax-efficient giving, including Gift Aid and payroll giving

www.grantfinder.co.uk

This is a subscription site, beyond the pocket of small organisations. It is a database of funding opportunities, including money from Trusts, the government, the lottery, etc. It is available at Poole Central Library, but is not very easy to use without training, though if you are IT literate you will be able to get something out of it. Lyn Pullen, Funding Adviser with Poole CVS, will research Grantfinder for you if you can be sufficiently detailed about your needs, or give you a quick training session (Poole groups only).

www.hlf.org.uk

Heritage Lottery Fund. This is one of the lottery funds, with money to help the natural and built environment.

www.institute-of-fundraising.org.uk

The Institute of Fundraising is the association for fundraising professionals. The information on the website seems rather dry at first, but there is some useful stuff hidden away – see, for example, the “Codes of fundraising practice”, which include some really practical information on things like raffles and lotteries.

www.localgiving4dorset.org.uk

This is the website of the Bournemouth, Dorset and Poole Community Foundation.

www.lotterygoodcauses.org.uk

This is the website which will allow you to access all the various parts of the lottery: from the home page click on distributors. You are most likely to want Awards for All, the Big Lottery or the Heritage Lottery fund (see separate entries for these in this list), unless you are looking for sports or arts funding, which have their own distributing bodies.

www.professionalfundraiser.org.uk

This is the website of a fundraising consultant, but has some interesting factsheets – see, for example, one on fundraising ideas for local events.

www.trustfunding.org.uk

A subscription site. For about £150 you can subscribe to a list of 4,500 trusts which fund groups. They also have a separate site for funding for individuals. Lyn Pullen has access to this site and so may be able to do a search for you (if you are a Poole group)
